PILATES

DEVELOP STRENGTH, IMPROVE FLEXIBILITY, AND INCREASE BODY AWARENESS.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a mind body exercise method that strengthens muscles while improving posture and flexibility. The goal in Pilates is not to push yourself to fatigue, but instead to train your body to move in a controlled manner with proper alignment, while maintaining congruence and integrity of the joint. Nearly a century ago, Joseph Pilates developed his method. He believed that optimal health was essential for a balanced mind, body, and spirit. His early years spent as frail child, suffering from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever fueled his determination to overcome these ailments. He became a gymnast, diver and skier, later working as a circus performer, boxer and self-defense instructor. While serving as an orderly in a hospital he worked with patients unable to walk, attaching springs to the hospital beds to help support the patients’ limbs, from this his famous piece of equipment known as the ‘Cadillac’ was created.
